ST. PETER'S BASILICA

Saint Peter's Basilica is situated in the centre of Vatican. It was built in differents etaps. All the Popes are buried there. The basilica is made of white stone. From the outside it is a big building. Inside, it has got a nice atmosphere. The pillars and the dome are good shapes. I've visited the cathedral six or seven times now, and the things which I like best are the nice and very big dome.

GIVING ADVICE

Dear Carles

One of my friends has started acting quite strangely. She’s always looking for money and she sometimes misses school. She’s going out with a guy, Steve, who I don’t know very well. Steve doesn’t speak to me when the three of us are together and he looks at me very angrily.
I don’t really know what’s happening. What’s your advice?

Clare

Dear Clare

If I were you, I would be worried about this. It’s a very complicated situation. Obviously, you should talk to them as quickly as possible. You must speak honestly to them and tell them that you are worried. Can it be that you have made something that they didn’t like?

Carles

Resume:

Longshanks has occupied much of Scotland, and his oppressive rule there leads to the deaths of William Wallace's father and brother. Years later, after Wallace has been raised abroad by his uncle, the Scots continue to live under the harsh thumb of Longshanks' cruel laws. Wallace returns, intent on living as a farmer and avoiding involvement in the ongoing "Troubles." Wallace rekindles a romance with his childhood friend Murron after showing her the carefully preserved thistle she gave him as a child, and the two marry in secret to avoid the primae noctis decree the King has set forth. But after Wallace beats up a group of English soldiers attempting to rape her, the village Sheriff publicly cuts Murron's throat before Wallace is able to save her. An enraged Wallace, with the assistance of his fellow villagers, slaughters the English garrison. He then cuts the sheriff's throat with the same dagger that killed Murron.

Knowing that the local English lord will retaliate, Wallace and his men enter his castle dressed in English uniforms and burn it down. In response to Wallace's exploits, the commoners of Scotland rise in revolt against England.

As his legend spreads, hundreds of Scots from the surrounding clans volunteer to join Wallace's militia. Wallace leads his army through a series of successful battles against the English, including the Battle of Stirling and sacking the city of York. However, he is betrayed by the Scottish nobility and defeated at the Battle of Falkirk.

He goes into hiding, fighting a guerrilla war against English forces, and personally murders the two Scottish nobles who betrayed him at Falkirk. Princess Isabelle meets with Wallace as the English King's emissary. She and Wallace share a tryst, during which she conceives Wallace's child. Still believing there is some good in the nobility of his country, Wallace eventually agrees to meet with the Bruce. He is caught in a trap set by the elder Bruce and the other nobles, beaten unconscious, and handed over to the English Crown. Robert the Bruce is enraged by his father's treachery, and disowns him forever.

In London, Wallace is brought before the English magistrates and tried for high treason. He denies the charges, declaring that he had never accepted Edward as his King. The court responds by sentencing him to be "purified by pain." Later William Wallace is brutally tortured to death, being alternately hanged, racked, and finally disemboweled alive. He signals to the magistrate that he wishes to speak. Using the last ounce of strength in his tortured body, he cries out, "Freedom!". He turns his head and sees Murron in the crowd smiling at him, and smiles lovingly back at her as he is finally beheaded.

Some time later, Robert the Bruce takes control of the remaining Scottish army and faces a ceremonial line of English troops at the fields of Bannockburn. Cheering Wallace's name, Robert Bruce and the Scots charge the stunned English lines and win their freedom.

AN EMAIL

From: Carles
To: Pep
Subject: Hi from Egypt

Hi Pep
I’m writing this email from Egypt. The weather is really hot at the moment but I really like it here because the people are very friendly and different. We’re travelling by cruise through the Nile and we’re stooping in different cities and temples.

We’ve just arrived here in Luxor. In the last few days we’ve looking beautiful deserts. So far I haven’t really enjoyed the food, but we’ve some good experiences.

Tonight we’re staying in the best hotel in Luxor and we’re celebrating the New Year. Tomorrow we’re going to come to the Cairo by plane. It should be fun.

I hope you’re well, Pep. I’ll write again soon.

Carles

THE FUTURE

In my opinion our lives will be more difficult and more miserable in the future. We’ll create a lot of contamination, and scientists will create a super-atomic bomb which will destroy us.

I think it’s important that we colonise space. If we don’t live on other planets, we’ll die.

In general I feel pessimistic about the future. I believe that people won’t learn to be responsible and to live in peace.

SURVIVOR'S STORY

Last month I went my family in Thailand on holiday. We stayed all days on the beach. It was a funny holiday but the last day…
I was sleeping on the beach and I heard a noisye. Suddenly in the horizon, I saw a massive wave. I was frightened. People were running everywhere. My family and I were going to the hotel. The monstrous wave hit all the people on the beach. A lot of people died but my family and I survived. Afterwards, I couldn’t do anything to help the people. It was a terrible experience. I feel very sad.

DESCRIVING A LIVE PITCHER

In my picture the colours are green because I’m very natural. I also think tat I’m a yellow person because I’m usually very very relaxed and friendly, but I sometimes annoyed.
There’s a photo of me in the centre of the picture. In the photo I’m meeting with my friends. It’s my favourite activity because it’s really funny.

There are other people, places and objects in my picture. You can see that I’m interested in football and I like people who are funny and friendly.
